Here's some ideas to kick around...
1.) Ways to organize the generators better...2 ideas for this
a.) 'holder window', i.e. a window that's like every other gen/fx window
and is treated like such, but you can keep choice gens and fx in it
and inside that window, you can arrange the units as you wish and the
window will remember their positions...or...
b.) multiple workspaces where you can arrange the windows how you want for
each space. I think this one would be a neater way to handle the
accumulation of windows. each workspace would have all the gen/fx windows
of the project, but each workspace would save their positions and min/max
setting.
2.) Vector automation with ability to manually type in value for each point.
3.) I know this one probably isn't popular and isn't necessary, but audio track
stretching and pitch shifting would be a nice touch
4.) Update tomcat to work like a steroid enhanced xr909 or maybe allow the
drum machine to be able to control multiple tomcats.
5.) titties. everything's better with titties.
What you guys think? (awaits BONES to shoot down every idea. :p )

Some ideas...maybe some have been suggested?1. Why can't you organise your own workspace?
2. I would prefer this to Automation Tracks, but it doesn't seem to be anything Rich is interested in at all. I especially like the idea of entering precise values. 3. You're right, it's not necessary. Even if some kind of timestretching was introduced, I don;t think the Playlist would be the right place for it, as Orion is not playlist-centric like other applications [which is what makes it better]. 4. Who cares, they are the two least useful generators in Orion. 5. I absolutely love titties. Dell G7 (Hexa-Core i7)|Cubase Pro 10||Analog Keys|Ultranova|MicroMonsta|Uno|Skulpt|Craft Synth 2.0|

Some ideas...maybe some have been suggested?@ Bones ->
1.) I'd just like to have a quick way to select and bring up a group of generators/effects that are logically linked together...for instance if I have a generator on a track with an fx holder and an extra insert, that's 5 effects that are linked to it that i'd want to open all at once. Or for live situations, i'd want specific things open quickly. There's no resolution that can open a song with more than 6 tracks with inserts and sends all at once. So to group them logically for how you want to play live would be great for switching back and forth between 2 or 3 window setups. 2.) can't have everything, i guess... 3.) figured as much, still threw it out there anyway...i can still load up energyxt2 for this. I just like having the option to not use external programs for such things. 4.) I disagree. The xr909 is so generic and stiff that it's almost useless, but the grid is nice. The tomcat, however, is very versitile. I think it would bring more of them into tracks if they could be triggered via an xr909 interface. In fact, why not have an interface similar to drummatic on tomcat? It would still get the job done (drum kit with tomcat) without changing the interface much...just some tabs at the top to select kick, snare, ohh, chh, cymbol, stick, etc. Would be a good compromise. Reason for it is still wanting to not use outside programs and vsts. I'm not a fan of vst. 5.) well, richard, 2 votes so far for titties. maybe push up up down down left right left right b a enter to see a pair of titties?
Some ideas...maybe some have been suggested?Hell, if it comes down to it, I'll throw a vote for Majestical Chesticles.

I'm sure there's someone around who can easily make this into a vst using synthedit... Last edited by Shadx on Fri May 15, 2009 3:09 am, edited 1 time in total.

Why not just lay things out so you can see them anyway, without having to do anything magical?
Why? if you organise everything properly, using Advanced MIDI mode, you should never need to look at your UI on stage.
Of course there is. At 1680x1050, I can get to about 8 generators and 12 mixer tracks and still see everything that's important - the whole mixer [which means every effect Ui is just one click away], the master section, every synth's toolbar [which means every synth's UI is just a click away] and the Playlist. It's simply a matter of being organised.
It doesn't worry you how absolutely shithouse it sounds?
Why not use samples? If you're worried about them being generic, use Tomcat to make them as a pre-process. DrumRack is awesome, the best drum-machine I have ever owned. Dell G7 (Hexa-Core i7)|Cubase Pro 10||Analog Keys|Ultranova|MicroMonsta|Uno|Skulpt|Craft Synth 2.0|

Some ideas...maybe some have been suggested?Okay, first off BONES, I know you're the ultimate idea shooter. It's cool with me. As such, 1680x1050 is not available to me on my system. Also, I notice you seem to believe that your way of working is the only way. That's neat and all, but I have no idea how you work, I just know what's comfortable to me. and I do think about my suggestions before making them as I try to suggest things that don't alter the program flow, they just add little 'sidebars' to it that are optional.
Second, you're assuming I have tons of midi gear I can use to route to my generators/fx. I realize there's 'workarounds' for those with the will and hardware, but for use with a very modest setup (my single core processor doesn't even break the 2GHZ mark!), a program that can bridge the gap is sometimes the better answer. If you've ever used Reason, the combinator was useful sometimes for just being able to group units together without actually having them be a combinator patch. It was useful to me. Same thing in ext2. I use the multiple workspaces in that as well. It's not something that must be used by everyone or is even a feature that anyone who doesn't look for it would realize even exists. For timestretch, how absolutely shithouse WHAT sounds? ext2 or orion's nonexistent timestretch? I do use samples, but when I can eliminate a step and save harddrive space and be able to tweak the drums in ways I can't tweak samples all in a single feature, I choose that option, yes. I see you don't like synth drums according to the link kriminal provided. That's fine by me. It just makes anything you'd possible say on the matter not mean anything to me since you don't use drum synths. Shooting down the idea for people who does also makes no sense. But hey, it's BONES. I should expect it (which I did as you can see from the OP). *awaits a digging into by BONES*
Some ideas...maybe some have been suggested? My way of working has been refined over almost a decade of using Orion. It worked for me at 1024x768 and continues to work for me today.
You don't need tons of MIDI gear, just one controller and a little bit of hard slog to make it work for you. I have never heard any timestretching that I would consider of usable quality, beyond a very limited range, where you'd be better off repitching it to fit if possible, like DrumRack does. Sure, sometimes you can hide it in a mix and it will work OK if you are speeding stuff up but because of those severe limitations, I think it's better left to an audio editor where you get better non-realtime quality. Why would any developer make a product for the bottom end of the market? You want Rich to do the work so that you don't have to spend money on a decent system. How is that fair to the vast majority of us, who put considerable resources into our music and would rather other things got done? I wouldn't have any problems with any wishlist items if Synapse audio employed 100 developers to work on them all. However, the reality is that it's just one guy with limited time, so it's perfectly reasonable to argue against wasting that precious time on stuff that makes it easy for people to get by on ancient, inadequate hardware but offers little for those of us with decent screen res, fast processors and some outboard gear.
