Combinator kinda thing! They introduced a new sequencer in version 4, it's really quite good. I like reason for sketching ideas, it's 100% rock solid(it never EVER crashed on me) and is light on the CPU(good to use on my weak laptop).
Combinator kinda thing! Can you 'merge' a template into a Song Hypna? I was pointing out one can set up a Song for a 'live' thing, and don't even have to record anything. Have the Amp Sim's and the effects all right there, and just jack your guitar into the Input and OP becomes this wild audio engineer for a guitar player. So 'templates' are taking over now - but they can be 'imported' into a Song couldn't they? And then if you do something with that song recording a wailing solo through the template - that song, and the template can be 'merged' with another tune for a big rock opus kinda thing? Too crazy for me! :schock:
Combinator kinda thing!
Yeah, I've seen that movie they have on their site. Still don't like the sequencing. It might be perfect for recording your notes, but for those like me who rely on their mouses to punch in notes on the grid, seems like a drag. The reason why it's stable is because of the complete lack of VST integration... one more thing that bugged me, I just forgot about it :hihi: That is how Orion would behave if you leave it with absolutelly no VST instrument or effect. When you think of it, it's VSTs that usually make crashes. Alone, with just its own integrated things, Orion can be rock solid as well.
Actually, you can. That is basically how Templates work. You have your project, it just adds those things that you saved as a template to it, which is basically an Orion's song sfs file. Wouldn't that be a form of Merge?
A template can be an entire song you created in Orion. So, whatever you put in there is a part of that song, a template, which you can recall into any project you're working on with just a few clicks of your mouse, and it automatically adds it to the project you're working on. It doesn't change what you're working on, just adds stuff from the file you saved as a template. Just like Merge would import things you select from a file for importing, and it just adds things to the current project. I'm not sure how all that live guitar thing would go, I think it would be possible. Last edited by HYPNAGOGIA on Wed Aug 12, 2009 11:28 pm, edited 1 time in total.

Combinator kinda thing!Never got Reason.
One of the worse and most needlessly boring and time consuming parts of my days working in an all analog studio (when I were apprenticing), was sorting out patching, plugging in leads, re-routing leads blah blah blah. The digital audio workstation age made that redundant. Then reason decided to make virtual patch leads. Bah, pure idiocy.
Combinator kinda thing! And here we are now discussing how good a program, that adheres to many of the analog studio standards, is.
A 'combinator' in Orion would be useless because Orion has none of the forward thinking flexibility that could take advantage of it.
Combinator kinda thing!Rubbish! Reason is a closed system that is pathetic next to the almost limitless possibilities of Orion. Combinator is a lame attempt to make it feel like it has something worthwhile, even though it is just a copy of what any hardware workstation has been able to do for decades ["combinations" in KORG workstations, for example]. The Combinator does nothing you will not be able to do in V8. Templates will take care of most of it, and Merge will be even better because you won't have to go to the effort to specifically save a template.

Combinator kinda thing!I was pretty stoked just by copying patterns and events between Songs in OP. And/or saving a Song as 'Guitar Setup 1' and 'Guitar Setup 2' and so on. But now to put that 'setup' into any song and not have to dial up a AmpRig preset and set the EQ's and routing's in OP again - that's pretty phenominal! And then to extrapolate any and all from that song noodling and merge it to something else for shits and giggles. That's really astounding! The days of 'bouncing' and 'crossfading' and 'tme stretching' are really coming to a close with OP!
OP's enough Reason for me!
Combinator kinda thing!Yep, well it sounds like V8 is going to pretty be perfect for me then!
Combinator kinda thing!I've not found a use for Templates in our workflow but we use Merge all the time. I think guitar players will definitely appreciate both.

Combinator kinda thing!I got to get back on my axe too, but these plug in's are getting so good! But yes, Templates would definetlly be the new Pod6 or Guitar Rig - without haing to go through all that muck. But having that muck immediately stored in OP at a button push, the plug's, the right levels, the EQ's and inserts and all. That is really amazing!
Put's my FX550 to rest once and for.... What am I saying, I love that little Yammy box!
