you know what would be super convenientis a visual of the paragraphic equalizer settings on each channel. not a huge one, just a little window with a rough graphic representation of the eq. hell, even if you just ran your mouse over the eq and right clicked or something and a little window popped up showing the curve would be kick ass.

you know what would be super convenientIsn't there a lot of free and payware plugs that do this already? You could have it on stand by, and any channel you wanted to check select the Insert and right click EQ Display or whatever these VSTs are called.
There's a good spectrum one over at KVR I used. Came in handy. But as a rule, I go by ear mostly. Last edited by Dungeon Studio on Wed Aug 26, 2009 8:24 pm, edited 1 time in total.
you know what would be super convenientWhat's the point? It's not changing the look of anything, it's changing the sound. You should be using your ears to decide what is appropriate, not some graphic read-out. IN any event, it is completely meaningless if you cannot also see the frequency spectrum of the material it is being applied to.

you know what would be super convenientI think the ultra low bass and crispy high ends on the rare occasion do need some visual guide to distance them from clashing with the mids. It get's tough on the ol' ears trying to discern accurately at that point.
But good spectrum analysers and other displays are out there, and easy to pop in to a insert on Master or wherever in OP. Here's my choice faves http://www.madtracker.org/plugins.php?c ... y=Analyzer
you know what would be super convenientIf that's true, then what does it matter? It becomes like asking a blind guy if your tie goes with your shirt. There is simply no relationship between the look of an EQ curve and the resulting sound, making it completely meaningless.

you know what would be super convenientFor me, just to verify there isn't a lot of unperceivable action in the highs and lows that may result in clipping, harmonic content, and/or chaos compressing down to 128kbs or dare I say 11khz (yes, I have to use that still for Microsoft choo-choo trains. )
Even though Galileo got our galaxy pretty good, we still like that big telescope to see what else is out there. Even if just pretty colours off in the distance can unleash new ideas and theories... For better or for worse.
you know what would be super convenientIt would be usefull for a fully parametric eq. ( = Q factor for each band ). But as in Orion mixer just one of the band have the Q parameter, everything is almost clear.
you know what would be super convenienthow did I know that the puristic idea of using your ears was going to come into this? In my original post I was going to say somehing about that, but I didn't in hopes that maybe it wouldn't become some sort of discussion concerning using your ears vs. visual cues.
Just to say, I said it would be convenient. For one, it would be one less plugin slot I would have to use on my channel, and though there are multi effects plugins, it isn't that convenient having to load them up and then load my plugins from there, especially when I have to move them around. I also think numbers next to the effects would be nice, because that way when I have six CamelPhats going, I dont have to rename them, and finding the one I need to put on different channels would be a snap. Sometimes I change instruments but want to keep the effects, for example, but going back to do that gets kinda hectic when I got seven effects with the same name. Anyway, back to the topic, I work with several well known artists (Tears of Technology, JayDazed, etc.) in the electronic music community, and they use programs like Ableton and Fruityloops, both of which I am not fans of. but what I'm saying is I am an idea, arrangement kinda guy, but when it comes to the technical side of things my ears just aren't up to snuff like some of these guys. I cannot hear every nuance, and thus, my mixes tend to be a little crowded or thin. If you would like to, you can check out my site. http://www.myspace.com/mexicola77 and tell me what you think. I know my ideas are top notch, and they are all original, from the ground up, but any technical advice would be great. Oh yeah, and I still stand by my original saying...a graphical representation of that Paragraphic EQ on each chan, even a tiny one, would be SUPER convenient. best regards illi Yes my siggy has my addy. http://www.soundcloud.com/illi ...see what I do with Orion?
