Request: Updated XR-909Moderators: Christophe, Mark Request: Updated XR-909Rich, I know you like your old gear and all - but an 808...? Really?
Actually one that was so cool that so many are missing is the Korg KPR77. Cool sounds that define Depeche Mode's 'Speak & Spell' album. (And a few other 80's bands.) And the trick to it was it had a tuning potentiometer underneath. You get a good solid emu of that, more than half the users here would kiss you to death.
Request: Updated XR-909I don't get all these wishes for emulations of old stuff. I want stuff that sounds 'good', not something that sounds 'like X'... and in many cases as shitty as 'X'.
Don't imitate, innovate
Request: Updated XR-909The 808 characteristics make for a great little beast and the TS-808 is great (especially with the update.). Esp. the kick and toms on a 808 are very 'spot on' for my needs. But I am not the kind of person who needs software be exactly like hardware. Imho synthesized drums are the way to go, like with the EKS-9. I'll take it any day over sample libraries.
Request: Updated XR-909+1 for innovation, crimsonwarlock. I don't picture anyone playing a 909 like jeff mills :respect: in my previous post anymore. That's the reason for me to point richard towards the Elektron (http://www.elektron.se/) stuff. This hardware is way ahead a lot of software synths. Really inspiring in sound as well as about sequencing.
I don't mean you have to copy anything, just take into account the state of the art (of 6 years ago or so)
Request: Updated XR-909i love the roland rhythm ace drum machine
Yamaha CS-30, Roland SH-1, Roland MKS70, Focusrite Scarlett 18i6, Yamaha FS1R, Oberheim Matrix 1000, Novation Remote 37SL, Korg Legacy, Alesis M1Active 520, Novation Launchpad Pro, Push2, Intel i7-7700HQ
Request: Updated XR-909I love rythm ace sounds too, but it wasn't roland, I think.
Request: Updated XR-909I'd love me a Electron Monomachine or Machinedrum anyday. But look at the prices! If people think that Orion is a bit steep let's remember that just a single Monomachine UW+ goes for about 2000 $.
In other words: I get what you are saying Javier, and I too neccesarily am not stuck in the 909/808/303 paradigm - but still I would appriciate a better Xr-909 and take it for what it is. And the 808 still rocks. Just so you know it!
Request: Updated XR-909Well, as we are talking wishes here anyway, I would like to see something like Dr Fusion (Odo) and/or Drumatic (e-phonic) but then in Synapse Audio style. No coincidence those are the two drum-synths I use now for my electronic music
Request: Updated XR-909My next hardware project will be an emulation of the 808 BD. I found the schematics on the internet and doesn't seem dificult, so I agree, it's sound is something special.
A td909 nowadays could easily cost 1200 € or so (used) and a Machinedrum 1500. Working with one of these babies (machinedrum) is one of the best things I remember when making music. Anyway, not that I'm the most influential user in this forum Oh and it seems that rythm ace is somehow related to roland: http://www.rolanddga.com/company/legend.asp
Request: Updated XR-909I agree Crimson. But if there's going to be emulations, I'd like to see Rich do things that were the 'underdogs' at the time. Maybe people would still say it sucks after Rich laboured on it. Hopefully some might say it's a whole new sound. Maybe Rich could enhance it by making each drum tuneable and on individual outs. And people could say 'That's the way KPR77 should've been! This is much better than a 606 or 808 or 909 now!' And maybe livens up Odo's and E-Phonic's as well. (Good stuff too BTW. )

If you like it, then do it. I fear your beta team is going to ruin you with poor business decisions. Orion should have a much larger user base by now... they are the beta testing/QA team, not the business owners/decision makers... right? At least they sure don't speak for me. Either way, the 808 is still wildly popular.. I feel you need to be thinking about both what you want and the $$ too and not the feelings of the 'precious' beta team.
Request: Updated XR-909808 kick is still use for sub bass

Request: Updated XR-909It takes a lot of time to make a faithful emu, several months at the very minimum. And that brings all other development to a complete halt for that time span. I do still think it's worth doing, but with the TS-808 out I feel it's a less pressing matter and the workflow/sequencer improvements should have priority for now.
