Anyone who's ever used linux should understand this one...just having a small set of maybe 3 or 4 buttons that save window positions and states of the current project. Essentially, it's usefulness comes in when say in 'desktop 1', I have all my rhythmic components and fx's arranged a certain way on screen and on 'desktop 2', I've got my bass and melody synths and fx, etc. then on desktop 3 id have only sends effects laid out neatly, etc. And if there was a little time left over if that was added, a linux style pushpin option would be nice to keep something always on top. But that's just icing, really.
As for the second request, it would be nice to have the audio not stutter when minimizing, maximizing and moving windows. It's done this on every xp system I've used orion on after v6. I don't know what changed, but it's really annoying. I admit, I don't use orion a whole lot as I have several sequenecers I move between to keep my surroundings 'fresh', but when I come back to Orion, this always gets a little annoying. I can get rid of 'some' of the glitchy audio by turning animated window minimizing on/off, but it still happens when moving a window, especially a larger one.
Okay, that's about it. Well, not quite...just want to point out that I feel like a winner having bought Orion during it's little 99$ stint. I see it's back at $150 again.

Multiple "Desktops" and no more skitchy audio with minimizinFor the "skitchy" audio when minimizing and moving windows, check if you have your drivers updated, specifically video drivers. Plus, might depend what kind of specs your computer has.
As for the "windows inside windows inside windows" wish... Personally, I don't think it's even possible with the current Orion windows architecture. Orion works on a "Parent-Child" basis, this would require some radical changes to make it work as "Parent-MultipleView-Child". SoundCloud ::: Facebook

Actually, I never understood the value in this in Linux. Hiding things away on multiple desktops seems like the opposite of organised to me.
I don't have too much trouble keeping everything organised on a single screen. Again, hiding stuff away seems like really bad workflow to me. Maybe you just need to find a system that works for you.
I've never had this problem with XP, once I've turned all the animations off, so I'm thinking it is something to do with your specific set-up. Dell G7 (Hexa-Core i7)|Cubase Pro 10||Analog Keys|Ultranova|MicroMonsta|Uno|Skulpt|Craft Synth 2.0|

Multiple "Desktops" and no more skitchy audio with minimizinits useful for a programmer, because you end up opening a lot of windows and distributing that to other virtual desktops kind gives breathing space. tried turning themes also off? but sometimes it can still happen, but not in an annoying way.
Multiple "Desktops" and no more skitchy audio with minimizinall windows and such are available on all desktops on the ones ive tried...its their arrangement...you can arrange them in meaningful ways per desktop.
the glitchy audio has happened on a couple of computer, the latest being my pocket studio, the u820 running xplite. its just got intel 500 somethinganother using shared memory. no other audio glitches anywhere occur...and it seems to be linked to asio cause direct sound doesnt do that...
Multiple "Desktops" and no more skitchy audio with minimizin...but asio is preferred for latency issues...and also, cpu never changes when moving and minimizing windows like the audio would suggest.

Still don't see any point. I generally have the application I'm working on full-screen and I just use ALT+TAB or the taskbar to switch between them. The only time I can think of when I don't work that way is when I am trying to set the co-ordinates of a new skin, where I like to be able to see Notepad at all times, but that takes about 2 seconds to organise. Multiple "Desktops" and no more skitchy audio with minimizinBones, look at ext1 or 2's docking system to get a feel for how it can be useful. Remember, not everyone has a 50" 6 gazillion pixel monitor they work off of. Its quite frustrating that every idea that comes by you dont look at a feature for the greater community, only your own gain. This feature would not change anything at all for you. You talk about resources for development, etc etc...so what? In the end you simply say "I dont need it so it sucks, go on little boy who doesnt know what a computer is" type talk. We know your the orion master...but we ALSO paid for it, so we are in the club too.
I suggested it because ive used it with great success on ext. However, I like orion better and I totally dig when programs use each others better features to improve performance or ergonomics. Shit tons of windows is a clunky interface these days...docking to tabs/desktops allows the current paradigm to exist with a new usefulness to those who prefer to have less minimize/window moving of many generators and effects. More than 1 second of consideration and thought would reveal its purpose. Last edited by hseiken on Tue May 11, 2010 2:34 am, edited 1 time in total.
Multiple "Desktops" and no more skitchy audio with minimizinI was talking about the Linux multiple desktop thing. I actually don't mind the tabbed "docks" in eXT, as the way they have been implemented is very flexible. e.g. If I put all my MIDI clips in one tab, my effects in another, but I leave my instruments and mixer open in the main view, I can switch to the MIDI tab or the effects tab and still see my instruments and mixer. It's can be a really handy organisational tool, although it would need to be adapted to work usefully in Orion. If you'd used that as your example and not the Linux thing, you'd have had agreement from me all along.
That said, I don't think Orion needs it nearly as much as eXT does, as it's easy for things like MIDI clip windows to mount up, so I think it should be well down on Rich's "to do" list as there are far more important things to get done. Multiple "Desktops" and no more skitchy audio with minimizinI like the idea of an eventual overhaul of how windows are used within Orion.
I wonder if it’s possible to change the internal window style: here's the example between Mixcraft and Orion: Matt
Multiple "Desktops" and no more skitchy audio with minimizinI really don't understand what you're trying to show there, Matt.
I'm quite curious what screen size and resolution you work with. Till recently I worked on a 17" CRT screen with 1024x768 resolution quite easily. I guess it's just a matter of how you organize your workspace.
If I were you, I would be a little more appreciative of Richard's time that he invests making all sorts of things work for us. I agree with Bones on that one. Development resources are very very limited, which you can ask any beta tester here. Rich works everything practically alone. He has to make sure that every synth testers have and every new feature work on it and see to fix it if they don't. And same goes for his synths, which are tested on range of other hosts by Rich and beta testers. For one guy to do all the coding can be too much. Honestly, if this multi-view of yours is even possible to do in a parent-child application, this kind of request would be on the very bottom of a very very long to-do list. Surely, there is a solution to your issue already within Orion. Find it or ask for help with finding it. Being here quite some time now, I've seen people seeing something they like in some other piece of software and think that is exactly how it should work everywhere. Then they find that's not really the case and come and demand for it to be implemented, but what they should be really doing is take the time to find out the solution that can work for their benefit. Developers can't solve all our problems, but we have solutions to 90% of the issues we encounter. As for Bones, get past the personal issues you may think he has with you and learn to "read between the lines". Trust me, you'll find some very useful tips there. Multiple "Desktops" and no more skitchy audio with minimizini dont assume everything i orion should work the way it does in other progs...and one would thing ui is a big issue. its not something a simple skin can fix...
presently, my resolution is 1280x800. some of the drumrack presets wouldnt completely show unless i have windows draw on top of the task bar. i use a lot of the old drum machine presets. i dont really see a whole lot that can be added to orion after the 8.0 version since itll have the automation overhaul (vectors finally...much easier to work with) and i guess theres some kind of folder view with takes or something in the playlist. theres only so much you can 'improve' engine wise before you start to morph the program into something completely different. these are big changes coming up...a simple optional tabbed workspace isnt a life or paradigm changing request, i think. and i know bones doesnt have anything against *me*...he just hates everyone equally.
Multiple "Desktops" and no more skitchy audio with minimizinI guess what I was trying to say is that cleaning up the windows title bar / border by making it thinner will provide a little bit of extra space for synths like D-CAM Fusor to fit on the screen (if your using a laptop).
Even the ability to put the synth on top of orion. I think FL has this functionality. Last edited by mattox on Tue May 11, 2010 5:56 am, edited 1 time in total.

That's higher resolution I used to work with. I think Krim might be still on lower than that. So, your issues are completelly of organizational nature. And yes, a skin work could probably fix that; a narrower DR for instance (if it exists, I don't know). But here's the thing. Why not split the DrumRack? You can load the same preset into two DrumRacks and split the tracks between them. You even get better sounding organization as you can group (so to say) similar sounds on each: kicks, toms and maybe other percussions on one, and snares, cymbals/crashes, hihats on the other. Or, simply remove the tracks with sounds you don't use from DrumRack if you have any, and if you're using older presets that came with DR, I'm quite sure you do.
Interesting. Even beta testers don't know any specifics of what will be improved about automations. You make it sound like it's already decided. It might be vectors, or not. No one knows for sure just yet. Folders in Playlist were discussed when Automation Tracks were introduced in the beta, but since they're scraped off the chart, don't know if there's really need for any folders. You can't bring windows out of Orion, due to it's parent-child architecture. All windows (synths, effects, mixer, master, playlist, etc) are confined within Orion's main window. Basically, you can't move them above transport bar on top, or lower than the status bar on the bottom. Last edited by HYPNAGOGIA on Tue May 11, 2010 6:12 am, edited 1 time in total.
