Idea to Add Complexity Without More Busses/Inserts/SendsModerators: Christophe, Mark Idea to Add Complexity Without More Busses/Inserts/Sends@ Bones: as you would say yourself (and have many times over): just buy a bigger screen.
About Animal Farm; it shows that ignorance is bliss here on the forum. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Animal_Farm To translate it to this forum: All users are equal, but some users are more equal then other users.
Idea to Add Complexity Without More Busses/Inserts/SendsWell, 5 pages, no agreement or compromise, nothing really said, and now animal porn. Nice going, guys. I'm out of this discussion.

Idea to Add Complexity Without More Busses/Inserts/SendsIt shows how childish things are around here. I make a reference to great literature by George Orwell and someone brings up porn. I'm getting to old for this shit
For those that didn't take the time to visit the wikipedia link I posted:
At least bones got it right, but failed to see the (above marked) reference.

In what respect? The discussion has been very civil so far, in fact harmless compared to others. Ok, so noone gets too excited about track folders...I don't see this as an issue. Happens to me all the time. New sequencer ideas are no different from musical ideas. You make 10 beats just to find out at least 9 suck so they go into the bin. Admin - Synapse Audio Software

It's not about the request Rich, it's about the ongoing mantra of a few (old) users that almost any new feature suggestion is being met with. It's getting tiresome in so many ways and I'm really not the only one making this assessment. Many others have posted messages in that same notion. Some users here on the board really do think they are more equal then other users; many statements made by these people are very condescending to other users. Someone not long ago here on the forum said 'I'm a paying user too'.... that sums it up I think. I simply think that as long as this will go on you will loose more users than you gain. Especially as there are more alternatives arriving to the scene. I mention Reaper a lot because I use it as well. Some people don't like that but if Reaper is no competition then what's the problem me pointing out a few usability suggestions. But as a real competitor (tmo) to Orion I would look at Mu.lab; it has the simplicity up front but is already much more powerful behind the curtains with it's modular routing. At the speed it is being developed I can see quite a few Orion users jump ship to go in that direction. As for track-folders, I didn't missed them until I got to use them in Reaper. It helps you to break down a complex mix quickly without a lot of clutter on your screen. It's available in many hosts, not because the developers add stuff because they can (or other strange reason), it's because it's an already proven concept and users ask for it. And this is where we get back to my 'animal farm' analogy; track-folders are not a bad idea because they work wonders for most users that have access to them. People that don't want to use them... simply don't use them. Nothing gets lost there. But here on the forum, because a very small group of users obviously have the biggest mouths, you come to the conclusion that it seems to be a bad idea. I just think it's your loss
Idea to Add Complexity Without More Busses/Inserts/SendsBut here on the forum, because a very small group of users obviously have the biggest mouths, you come to the conclusion that it seems to be a bad idea.
It's just your impression. It's not about biggest mouths. Richard has his own opinions and conclusions, regardless of how big mouths say things how loud.
Idea to Add Complexity Without More Busses/Inserts/Sends^^^^^^^ what Lance said. Rich is pretty fair about how he handles things......... The mantras do manage to slow development a bit IMO, but progress is being made.
These long long threads filled with 'my old chevy my not look the shiznit, but it gets me from point a to b', and tyraids about how most people are idiots unless they conform to my way of working, because I know the proper way to do it; does get really tiring. We all respect peoples' experience, but experience shouldn't hold back evolution.

I'll take your word for it, but it's certainly not just 'my' impression. Last edited by crimsonwarlock on Fri May 14, 2010 1:11 pm, edited 1 time in total.

I can't, this looks more like GarageBand to me. Besides, I find it naive to only look at the routing. The sequencer, overall workflow, features, bundled instruments and effects, sound quality etc obviously matter a whole lot more. That's not to say I'm not willing to improve that part of Orion, I'm still listening to all input/ideas...
Not a bad idea, I just see it more as an organizational tool like Bones. Admin - Synapse Audio Software

Idea to Add Complexity Without More Busses/Inserts/SendsIt IS an organizational tool, I made that clear with my drum-mix example. And so is a sub-mixer.
I did say that bones idea of a sub-mixer was quite nice tmo. Only when others voted against because of screen estate I said that track-folders (which do EXACTLY what this sub-mixer does) might be another idea. The discussion got derailed because bones want it his way (or the highway, as always) and started saying that track-folders are 'just' an organizational tool, completely going past the fact that track-folders do EXACTLY what his sub-mixer idea does. So here it is (for the last time): Sub-mixer: busses into a mixer strip on the main mixer, has inserts and sends. Track-folder: busses into a mixer strip on the main mixer, has inserts and sends. The ONLY difference: track-folders are PART of the main mixer, sub-mixer is NOT part of the main mixer. So how can a sub-mixer be a good idea while track-folders are a bad idea while they both do EXACTLY the same. They only differ in where they are on the screen, just a difference in implementing THE SAME THING. Maybe someone should get past their ignorance and try the concept, there are demos available. Bottom line: a Track-folder is IN FACT a sub-mixer embedded into a main mixer. Nothing more or less. Anyone who fails to see it is either a fanboy, happy to be ignorant or just plain idiot (to use a bones-ism).

too old to take a joke Peter....? maybe you need to chill out a bit and not take the internet so seriously eh BTW, im very familiar with Orwells work Last edited by machinist on Fri May 14, 2010 4:00 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Idea to Add Complexity Without More Busses/Inserts/SendsOh, I can take a joke... but this topic (like so many here ) is way beyond jokes.
Idea to Add Complexity Without More Busses/Inserts/Sendswell, you can always read something more stimulating if this forum isnt doing it for you....
Idea to Add Complexity Without More Busses/Inserts/SendsIgnorance IS strength.
Bones suggested a minor inclusion. Others got out their Sharpies and graphic editors and turned the horse into a camel. (Now that's a banned movie!) Make it REALLY strong before it's even out of the stable. And this double speak New Speak of mantra's and old dinosaurs and Animal Farm is the best defense? And this real paranoia that even if Rich opt's for Bone's idea 'as is' OP's going to be stuck with it forever without any chance for growth or phaseout for enhanced mixers if the consensus or Rich alone wants it. Happened with effects already, happening with synths now for OP8. No backlash against Rich, no fear, no 'bright ideas' there to make a Super Wasp with 29 oscillators, 42 waveforms, built in sampler... And why the hell not? It's stupid, too much work for Rich, who'd use it, dream on...? But so STRONG over this simple idea? That's what I truly don't get? You're at the Scopes trial Crimson, and God ain't going to save you. Just like he didn't save Joe McCarthy after all the 'good he tried to do'. But you will continue this at 1:1 odd's until the laughter completely drowns you out. Stay strong.
Idea to Add Complexity Without More Busses/Inserts/SendsI don't know. But I personally find the climate of discussion somewhat inflated here at times. Maybe it is because we tend to be passionate about our gear.
I tend to agree with crimsonwarlock on the need for evolution. But I try to avoid to go into affective discussions. It does not help me, the person I reason with or the developer. If we just could be a bit more civil I believe that a lot of these fixed positions that tend to show would reveal a lot more common ground then we may believe to be the case. But these are just my two öre. I hope noone take offence by me chipping into the discussion.
