Hi,
for testing sound combinations it would be very helpfull if one could play with a keyboard more than a single generator at the same time, for example with pressing the R-botton from several generators to play them.

Re: Playing more generatorsYou can set as many generators as you want to "Receive MIDI From" a one single generator that you can play, and all the rest will play with it.

Re: Playing more generators
This is very usefull for playback in composition within the arrangement, but if you want spontan try out several combinations its to complicated and need to much time to adjust only for testing.
Re: Playing more generatorsComplicated? really?
It couldn't be simpler. Orion is simpler than any other DAW/Virtual Studio in almost every way. You don't have to connect instruments to a mixer. You don't have connect piano rolls to instruments, You don't have connect midi tracks to the "sequencer". There is no jumping through hoops to set up a project. Ticking "receive midi from" is as far from complicated as I can think. If you don't like to do it that way, then Copy/Paste is nearly as quick and easy. I don't understand the problem. Maybe, and I don't mean this sarcastically, you would prefer to work with a VST/VSTi chainer. There are a couple of cheap ones that some people like to use like Chainer. -7zark7
Re: Playing more generators
I already have chainer. But if you chain instruments in chainer you have to change either the MIDI-Channels to select a combination or to load everytime different instruments to one chainer-channel. I only want to give a suggestion for a very fast possibility to try out sound combinations. And the simplest way would be to press shortly the R-botton of different generators, thats all.
Re: Playing more generatorsI stand corrected. That would be simpler.

Re: Playing more generators
How would it work? How would Orion know which generators you wanted to hear and which ones should stay quiet? "Receive MIDI From..." seems as easy a way as any to achieve it. The "R" button is for recording, so using it in Song mode would record stuff. It's a stupid idea. A slightly better idea might be to have the MIDI channel selector n the Synth Toolbar, like the Length control, but that is a lot of space for something no-one has thought of in 10 years (until today) and not much use otherwise. Re: Playing more generatorsI think he wanted an "R" button placed in the toolbar that stood for "receive". But as you point out, this would not be sufficient as it does not answer the question "receive from where?".

Re: Playing more generatorsKriminal is right. Change to Advanced mode in the Midi Settings option. However this is something I've wanted to bring up for a while, some of Orion's internal generators load with Midi channel set to Off so they need to have the channel set manually for them to work in Advanced mode. Pro 9, Drum Rack and Acoustic Grand are three that come to mind. Generators like Wasp and the Toxics load with midi channel 1 as default so they will work with no additional adjustments. Same for Vsti instruments, they load with channel 1 as default.
So in my opinion all of Orion's generators should load with channel 1 or Omni as default so they can be used just as the OP is requesting with no additional adjustments.
Re: Playing more generators
I play multiple instruments all the time in Advanced Mode and it's one of Orion's strong points to load several instruments and play them in real time or just for testing combinations as the OP requested. No need to set "Receive Midi From" each time you load a new instrument for testing. Albino layered with Zebra and Dune........a little Sampletank thrown in.......makes for some awesome sounds. Now with the ability to save Templates in version 8 these layers can be saved and recalled just as easily as one would call up a single synth preset. Very powerful sound creation possibilities....... Then if you want to record any combination you use Receive Midi From...............
Re: Playing more generators
Dear Bones, IT'S NOT A STUPID IDEA, because it works exactly this way in cubase perfect and it needs perhaps 3 seconds to choose 10 VSTi's for fast testing sound combinations when pressing R-Botton in tracks. Only when the Record-Botton in the transport bar is pressed, cubase is ready for recording. And this method works at least since 5 years perfect. But I like the pattern-based concept of Orion, thats why I want to work more with it and therefore giving suggestions to improve Orions possibilities and workflow.
