Hi there..Rich and co.. it's Theo here.. I thought I already had a forum account but it said username not recognised so i created a new one.. Granted, I have not been around in many years!
I just bought The Legend as soon as I heard the demo sounds and saw the end of year sale. It sounds fantastic..
But I don't understand why there is no 16 poly mode when the thing is so capable of such lush pads.. Long release pads with 4 key chord progressions will prove too much for 8 voices..
I am running on a 2 day old 16" MacBook pro with 2.4ghz 8 core (9980HK), Catalina 10.15.2 and 64GB ram.. I have disabled turbo boost using the superb turbo boost switcher pro (9.95 USD) for all day to day tasks and indeed also music making, to keep the fans silent and heat down.. I will only enable it when I run out of juice..
And the legend was only using around 1/4 of a core when the max speed was 2.4ghz, playing at a 64 sample buffer with the track record armed! I mean, that's really lean (I was in 8 poly mode) so why not add a 16 voice mode to give us freedom to play more complicated chord progressions?
Also, I am a bit concerned about this new authorisation... Lord knows I hate challenge response purely because one is always at the mercy of an online server to use what they paid for.. I trust Synapse but I still would have thought twice about it prior to purchase had I realised, and it came as an honest shock.. My issue is, I have 2 macs in the house.. I have an iMac with Mojave and also win 10 bootcamp, and now a MacBook with Catalina and Win 10 bootcamp. I use both OS in the studio room equally as Pro Tools runs better on Windows at low latency but I also of course use Logic on OS X. That means effectively i have 4 OS but only 2 machines to authorise, and they never are used simultaneously. This is specifically why I generally only buy software with a dongle, which can stay in place for a reboot to bootcamp and be moved to the other machine if necessary, or plain serial (which I thought of course was what Synapse still used). This is because the max online auths seemed to be capped at 3 for most software.
I am not finding anywhere how many auths synapse provides, and if they can be deactivated and transferred once all used up? Could someone please clear this up for me?
Also, after Dune 1 and 2, the upgrade price to 3 is a bit steep and I wish it also went on sale. $49 I could stomach.. The legend was $120 AUD to buy, remember currency is all relative for the customer, and it will cost me other 120 AU just to upgrade Dune.. I have to pass for now and price is the only reason, sorry about that but I am just letting you know my position on it.
Cheers and hope you are all well.

Re: Love the Legend.. why only 8 voices, also, authorisationHi Theo,
the reasoning behind 8-voice mode is twofold. First it is a common voice count of vintage-analog polysynths (thus giving an authentic feel), and second it perfectly fits into our AVX processing core which can handle large parts of processing those 8 voices in parallel. This is what makes it so efficient compared to some other emulations. Also note originally The Legend was just a mono synth emulation with a 4-voice unison/poly mode added for fun, i.e. it was never planned to be a polysynth in the first place. Our "true" poly synth emulations are yet to come, and will be even better for poly work because the deviations of the voice boards will be much more accurate That said yes it is of course possible to add a 16-voice mode in a future update. About authorization, please email or PM us with your username, so we can look into it. Should be no problem at all though! Admin - Synapse Audio Software

Ok Rich.. will do so.. Thank you mate.. It is incredibly efficient but it's SO good at making pads I just want more. I admit I am greedy. It was your own demo of the pads that sold me.. No samples, just analog goodness and warmth (ugh, that word, but it fits!). Even if it uses some more mojo I won't say no to a 16 voice *option*. I'll PM you now with my account username. Cheers!
