....such efficiency?
I upgrade my Dune 3 as well.. and I am once again blown away.
You have to understand that I am limiting my laptop to 2.4ghz in all my test by having turbo disabled.. If i enable turbo it literally jumped to 4.8ghz (if i have dune multithreading disabled) and cpu usage drops by almost half..
Truth be told, my best results come from allowing the DAW to handle the multi threading. I find that with any synth that has it's own onboard muti cpu engine, that it ends up I actually get less overall instances and lower efficiency in the DAW.. in DAWs that are not so efficient, it would be a different story.. but using Logic alone, I am able to load it to almost 1400% of the maximum real cpu usage of 1600% with 16 threads.. so there's not much room outside that.
Anyway, I am using 30 voices and at 2.4 ghz, it is using just over half a core.. This is one of the heaviest patches of the synth..
What magic are you doing that others don't seem to be able to? Your coding is amazing. It looks beautiful by the way, sounds beautiful, such a wonderful stark contrast to legend.. I adore the retina GUI, and there are some great factory banks.. I really want to buy some sound banks and that is next on my list..
This is sylenth levels of performance with sound far more advanced.. (albeit i will always say that was amazing for it's time and I still use it).
With this sort of quality it actually makes me want to buy some beastly 16 core desktop and do away with 80% of my hardware synths, and only keep my motif, integra-7 and virus.. A much easier more integrated total recall workflow.. I do love my hardware but you guys are impressing me on a level I haven't been impressed in years now..
Just wanted to pay respect, and will definitely give this a mention at Gearslutz cause it deserves to be hailed again as does Legend..
I am curious.. is a lot of this to do with AVX instructions in modern processors? Does TSX have any real world application for performance optimisation in the audio plugin world also? i have always wondered about that one.. Just that I love emulation gaming and the PS3 emulator gives around 25% better frame rates with TSX.. i always wondered if there was a practical application for it for plugins also, and if they could even be made more lean.
Seeing things like this gives no excuse to the endless supply of CPU hogging plugins out there that don't sound any better, whether FX or Synth.
I would love you guys to consider porting your excellent RE effects to Au/vst/AAX and perhaps consider tackling something like a tape emulation of your own. The reason this came about is that I was disillusioned today by the IK Tape plugin that is being raved about everywhere, yet is actually unusable on ANY computer in a multitrack real world usage situation. I have to wonder if you guys could do something spectacular in that arena and actually make it usable...Anyway.. just my 2c of happy praise.. It was a really good day today having not bought any new plugins in at least 18 months, I made the right choice to go with Synapse! Cheers all.

How on Earth are you guys programming such quality with...Macbook pro 16", 64Gb ram, 8 core 9980HK, ATI 5500M, OS 10.15.2. Pro tools addict who thinks it's the best thing since sliced bread, even with all it's missing features vs some other DAWS.

Good question. TSX is related to multi-threading, so it is probably difficult to get this to work efficiently in a host with many different plugins from different vendors. Don't really have any first hand experience though, and thus far I don't know about any host or plugin using this technology. AVX on the other hand is available per core, so in case of The Legend we can largely render 8 voices in parallel, all on a single core. This means a modern CPU with say 8-16 cores should be able to handle roughly a hundred instances of The Legend simultaneously. This is probably more instances than anyone will ever need Admin - Synapse Audio Software
