Hi,
I've been wondering what's the purpose of having sample position as mod destination in the modulation matrix?
Unfortunately the manual doesn't explain this much. As soon as a modulation source is assigned to sample position, pitch keytracking for sample osc is gone. And using lfo or mseg for modulation doesn't result in anything sounding useful. I thought it's maybe for basic granular synthesis, but the outcome sounds nothing like it.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Dune 3 - sample positionThe sample position destination fixes the current playback position to the specified value.
This destination is intended to work with MSEG as a source, so if you draw a straight line upwards, you get a basic forward playback. If you draw a line down, the sample plays back in reverse. So you can do all those of wild stuff with this Note that the modulation rate must be set to "Audio Rate" on the Settings page for this to sound good, otherwise you will get a rather lofi playback quality. Re: Dune 3 - sample positionwould be useful to add that to the manual

Re: Dune 3 - sample positionactually, i still have no idea what it does....nothing works here, just the horrible glitch noise

Re: Dune 3 - sample positionI can get a sample to play backwards by using the method Rich mentioned above. MSEG ramp down. MSEG to Sample Pos and using Audio Rate modulation which is the key.
But that locks the pitch. I've tried several different modulation options to Osc 3 Keytrack with no luck. Sometimes by using the Keytracking in the MSEG window it will work but not always. Here's an example: You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
Re: Dune 3 - sample positionThanks Richard for your response. My initial thinking was a sample should be played back as it is when using mseg ramp up to sample position mod at 100, but to my surprise and contrary to my intuition, it wasn't.
One thing I haven't considered, was to set the modulation rate setting to the highest, which turned out to be essential! Now it all makes sense. I would recommend putting the modulation rate info in the manual. It would clear up any confusion for sure.
