Hi,
Anyone know how to set the patch author name?
I can double click on the description in the main screen and the browser, and I can set the category by dragging my patch into the appropriate folder, but how do I set the Author name, double click it doesn't allow me to edit it...
Any ideas?
Thanks

Re: Dune 3 - How to set a patch author name?Yea I'm confused, don't know who is posting what where but all you need is a config file in your custom folder:
; Soundbank configuration file for Synapse Patches Browser AuthorCode = Tek AuthorName = Teksonik ; The defined categories will be added to the category list ; Please use common names, such as Bass, Sequences etc. AddCategories =Analog,Ambient,Wavetables Just change the author code and name in this config file: You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
Re: Dune 3 - How to set a patch author name?
Thanks for the confirmation Baffles me though why this data is not in the patch itself though as description is, so text is capable and has start and end markers in the fxp format, note quite as friendly as u-he and spire presets.
Re: Dune 3 - How to set a patch author name?Well as long as all sound designers adhere to the format by putting an .ini file in their folders it shouldn't be an issue. You only have to create your own .ini once which is maybe a three minute task.
Another feature of the .ini file is you can define additional Categories that aren't already on the list. To be honest I almost never use the browser in DUNE 3. The old system which is still available is far more efficient for me. I can view over 200 patches at a time by not putting them in sub-folders and since I pre-tag my patches they are already ordered in categories. U-He browsers are way overkill and bloated for my needs and my main complaint with Spire as it is with most browsers is you can only see a limited number of patches at a time without the need to scroll. Having to constantly scroll up and down or left and right kind of negates any time savings a browser may bring.
Re: Dune 3 - How to set a patch author name?Well we all like things in our own ways, if we were all the same it would be a very boring world indeed...
RE: Preset/Patch exploration As for the perfect preset browser, I still don't think it's been made, close but it would have to give me the full capabilities of windows file exporer with directory tree to left with a rating and tag system (that's actually done right, never seen a good tagging system displayed)... I'm one of those who doesn't even use windows file explorer, have been hooked on XYPlorer for many years now, I couldn't live without having about 4 to 10 file exporer tabs open in XYPlorer at a time, add a rating system to that for samples (probably can for mp3 tag) and then you would have something special but that would be way way way overkill... RE: Sound designers adhere to the format - preset/path names I do name everything: BAS-NAME, SEQ-NAME, LD/LED, SQ/SEQ etc also. But before the new patch browser I wrote programs to process the patches looking for their classification key words in their file names and put them in folders, I do this with many of the others I have too. RE: Preset/Patch formats As a programmer I personally would have gone with a json format and then if samples or data needs to be in the file it would be appended below a carriage/newline return /r/n and then have markers which would be looked for in the VST in relation to the easy to read and parse json data above (or xml), or in spire and u-he, text line by line old school stuff.... After all mostly its just a bunch of settings for the vst to be set at... The worst I've seen structurally is omnisphere, what the programmers were thinking when they set those directory structures up I have no idea, but I think requirement no 1 was, ensure that it's a mess... 2. Make sure we confuse anyone who goes into our folders looking to do anything...
Re: Dune 3 - How to set a patch author name?It all seems a bit over complicated to me but like you said to each his own.
They're synths not spreadsheets (although I do love spreadsheets for the tasks they're suited for). It seems like one could spend more time classifying and tagging and rating and favoriting patches than actually using the synth.
