I'm having trouble with the V1.2 Windows (11) installer for Obsession.
After making my selection, it just prompts this without installing:
It doesn't matter if I give it a custom path (pasted or browsed to) or default path, or install VST2 or 3. Infact, even if I install VST3 to the default path, it asks me where to install the VST2 even though I didn't select it.
My preference would be to install a 64-bit VST2 to a default path on my D: drive - but if I am forced to use VST3 only, I will.
What am I doing wrong?

Re: Obsession 1.2 installer not installingI can also confirm this is the same with the Dune 2 installer. It doesn't install either and only shows the same error prompt about the path being wrong (when it isn't).
Re: Obsession 1.2 installer not installingNo idea what the problem is, but, it works here
I install vst 2 64bit to D/VST64 folder, and data goes into default locations in My Docs/Synapse etc Windows 11 Home - 12th Gen i5-12400 2.50 GHz -32GB RAM

Re: Obsession 1.2 installer not installingHi, is your disk or any folder mounted as short or is it network drive?
Or are your Documents folder relocated from the default one? Do you run an installer as Administrator? If nothing from the above, then please try to install VST 2 to C: drive and see if that works (for example create the folder: C:\Users\[yourname]\VST and point vst 2 path to it).
Re: Obsession 1.2 installer not installing
I don't know the answer to this, sorry. I'll search for a way I can tell.
The Documents folder is in the default location C:\Users\[PCname]\Documents
Yes. Right Click + "Run as Administrator"
I tried this... This worked for Dune 2: 32-bit VST Plugin: C:\Users\[PCname]\VST <----- new folder I created 64-bit VST Plugin: D:\Music Production\VST\Synapse Audio <----- Where most of my other 64-bit VST2's go 64-bit AAX Plugin: default location <------- I don't use ProTools so will probably delete this But it doesn't work for Obsession. I still get the same error as the first post. I can't use Obsession on my new PC ![]() PS I have hundreds of plugins installed and have never had this trouble before with any other plugin.
Re: Obsession 1.2 installer not installingPlease try the two more things:
1) unzup the Obsession's Setup.exe to your Desktop and run the installer from there. If not help, then: 2) install Obsession to anywhere on C: drive and see if that worked.
Re: Obsession 1.2 installer not installing
Thank you Marcin for continuing to help me. I really wanted one of these methods to work, but neither did. Here is a quick screencapture of trying to install from my Desktop into a C: Drive location https://i.imgur.com/r5GohZh.mp4 I've also tried running the setup file and installing from and to various C Drive locations like C\Program Files\Common FIles\VST2 (and VST3), C\Users\[myPCname]\VST\ etc - and get the same error prompt.
Re: Obsession 1.2 installer not installingWhat is your PC name and user name ?
in the video we can see that you paste the path, can you browse instead with the button browse to the right ? Re: Obsession 1.2 installer not installing
Ah, thanks for the video. It tells something more. The shortcut step wonders me here for the most. What if you put (for example) the same path for the shortcut location as the vst plugin location (so that it starts from C:...)? Does it help?
Re: Obsession 1.2 installer not installing
I think you're on the right path (pun? ![]() My User profile is "PLAYTECH" which is the name of the company I bought this computer from. They make custom gaming PCs and high end workstations. I logged into my Microsoft account (my real name is Jason) so it shows in Accounts, but "PLAYTECH" remains as the folder on C Driver users. But I do notice in the C: Users folder, there's also a "Default" profile. I wonder if there's a conflict between the 2 that only the Synapse installer doesn't like? As you have asked, here is a quick screencapture of me installing from Desktop but this time I am browsing to the User folder, rather than copy/pasting the path. https://i.imgur.com/mPvCWNe.mp4 Edit: The 'Default' folder is actually a hidden folder - which has Documents / Desktop / Downloads etc in it as per a normal Users folder, but they are all empty and the folders are 2022/2023, before I even got the computer! I don't think it's the issue here but not sure. You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
Re: Obsession 1.2 installer not installing
Do not try to install to the Default folder. Windows will not allow that. On your second movie still there is shortcut path not changed according to the above hint. Here is the step I did mean the above: Paste, for now, for the check, the same folder path there as for the VST installation folder you use (it is C:\Users\Play...). Re: Obsession 1.2 installer not installing
Oh, this is interesting. There is definitely something funky going on with my user accounts. When I access that User folder from the recent folders in the Windows Explorer Quick Access list, it's showing the path is "JASON", not "PLAYTECH"... But If I copy that path and paste it into a notepad, it says PLAYTECH. ![]() You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
Re: Obsession 1.2 installer not installing
I tried to install both the VST2 and app 'shortcut' to the same folder - and I get the following error: Which is strange because there are no special characters in the folder names. It's like the installer is reading the folder directory back-slashes as folder name characters? You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
Re: Obsession 1.2 installer not installingThis simply sounds sach us computer were configured with "Playtech", but then username has been changed.
Maybe that's why "Shorctut" step is appearing, because installer can't find the right folder. Please then try the VST installation path (I suppose it's the one you want as final one): D:\Music Production\VST\Synapse Audio Then for the program's shortcut try to browse some folder for your programs, not sure what is there, maybe if you manually select the folder from Browse, then I think program's shortcut and path somehow will be found and accepted. I think this is the issue here - the shortcut path, not plugin's (the initial error you got).
Re: Obsession 1.2 installer not installing
Thanks Marcin, I have done this (install both VST2 and Shortcut to the same folder) - and got a strange error prompt and naming characters. I can do a screenvid of that too if you like, but for now I just took a screenshot of the prompt, please see above.
