Dune 3 Hidden overdrive

Postby Sirous » Thu Jul 16, 2020 3:11 pm

When turning on the phaser, the sound gets totally distorted. Ofc I know that the feedback of the phaser is on 100 % but the sound does not reach the 0 db, so there should be none right?

For some reason I get the message that the extension fxp is not allowed.

I'm not getting "totally distorted" but there is a considerable bump in volume between 100% Dry and 100% Wet.

It's much easier to hear with an INIT patch and then set the Phaser.

Is that not natural with phasers? (unless set to stun)

When the original signal and the delay signal come into phase alignment the signals are added and therefore are boosted a bit.

???

just had a quick play, is it related to the stereo spread?

it looks like with spread at 0 the level only increases during the phase alignment peaks, which you expect, then it settles down until the next cycle. Then turn the spread all the way up and you get the increased output constantly.

From the Manual:

4.15.3. Phaser
A phaser modifies the phase of the signal around some frequency, then adds it back to the
original signal.

Feedback
The output of the phaser can be fed back to its input, thus creating a resonant sweep. Both
positive and negative feedback is possible, at center position there is no feedback.

Dry/Wet
Mixes the dry and processed signal. Since the phasing effect is achieved by mixing the original
and processed signal, the mix ratio should be typically around 50%. Lower values can be useful
to make the effect more subtle, however, and higher values can be useful with strong feedback.

At no setting do I get "totally distorted". :?

Thanks for your answers but cmon don't put it on a gold scale! It's not totally distorted but it's for sure noticeable.

Is it natural? Idk, I never had this before or never noticed. Just felt wrong and made me wonder. I've wanted the phaser effect like this but without the overdrive which is no normal result of the feedback as I know it at least.

Here it's not related to the stereo spread.

Teksonik I respect you and the stuff you did from what I have heard, but please don't be childish. What is it that you can call totally distorted and what not anyway? Where is the line/border for that? For me this is totally distorted but I get why you don't call it like that. But if something is that heavy overdriven than you can call it so imho. I anyway don't see the necessary to hang up on such unimportant words.

How have I been "childish" ? I'm taking time out of my day to try and help you but all I can go on is what you write. If you can't be precise then you'll be misunderstood.

You wrote "totally distorted" but I am not getting a totally distorted sound or a heavily overdriven sound. All I'm getting is a bump in volume as expected. In other words I find no problem with D3's Phaser.

But if you're going to be rude I won't bother to help you. I certainly have better ways to spend my time.
