"Closer" SoundIf anyone is familiar with the Kings of Leon Closer song - can Orion make that awesome sound?
"Closer" SoundI like Kings Of Leon. But didn't realise they had a song called Closer as well. Joy Division 'Closer' was simply Arp Solina Strings, NIN 'Closer' was Novation synths, and lord know's what KoL is using these days.
But I'm sure OP could do it if you know you're synthesis. Or, maybe there's a preset already for Wasp or Toxic et al that's close to it? BTW - Have you checked out OP's 'Reloaded' site yet Z? Lot's of free and cool presets and things for OP's synths and drums et al. Bookmark this one... www.orion-reloaded.com
"Closer" SoundIt's on their latest album, 'Only By the Night.' I'm assuming it's a synth and not a keyboard. They like to use simple, yet tasty, little patterns (like in 'On Call' too.)
Thanks for the link! I hadn't seen that.
"Closer" SoundUsing just a quick listen to this link http://www.we7.com/#/track/Closer!trackId=1226525
The intro bit that carries through you mean? Technically I'd say that's a guitar going through either a DigiTech Whammy pedal or something like a Kaoss Pad with a lot of delay thrown on. Cool sound indeed. But yes, OP and it's synths and effects are certainly capable of that fairly easily. You could use one of the acoustic guitar samples on the sampler and mute it with the filter, or find a more electric guitar sound on Toxic or Wasp even. Put a lot of slow diffuse delay on the Send channel above it. They key there is to adjust the pitch bend range to like +7 or 12 even (defaults usually at 2). So you'd plunk a couple of notes sustain the last one just a bit and quickly crank the PB wheel up on your controller and release it just as quick. Or draw in a abrupt rise and fall in EVT just under the fourth notes. You'll be Mr. Trippy in no time.
"Closer" Sound
Sure. But it's pretty much stuffed with "real" instruments which you would have to record. The guitars for example. The drum set should be easily reproduceable with Orion. Vocals? Can you sing?
"Closer" SoundI was bored this morning so after have read your post , i've tried to find this sound . Maybe with EZ Poly TopCat TC preset ; put Glide setting on the high level ! ..don't know it's not really the same sound of course but maybe it's a good basis ! anyway you'll have to play with glide and delay settings to get this sound .
...sorry but this sound reminds me the one of Foreign affair , the song from Crises album of M.O. , i remember to read that he got this sound with his Fairlight CMI ...
"Closer" SoundThanks everybody. I'll experiment with it. By the way, I'm little confused on how to apply certain effects such as the delay, reverb, flanger, etc. to a certain pattern.
"Closer" SoundDelay, Reverb, Chorus, etc. usually gets applied on the overall 'mix'. Patterns only go 'through them' generally, and you set the send levels accordingly on the mixer. And can be finely adjust with automation in Song as well. But generally you just want to create a good ambience with the Sends for your patterns to go through at this point.
"Closer" SoundAh, very cool....
And I downloaded a number of samples that was linked to the website you posted above. I just don't know how to get them to be recognized by OP. They're in the right folder.
"Closer" SoundFor those you need to put them in the Samples folder firstly (check and done) Open OP and insert a Empty Sampler. On the sampler's 'LCD' screen, you'll see a file folder icon, click that. It should open your Samples Folder now on screen. From there select one you've just downloaded - let's say it's called NewSample, and Open. You should now be able to play and hear it on the Sampler.
Now the key here is it will sound pretty 'raw' on it's own, and you'll want to add filters and things to it on the sampler. Once you get a sound you like with it, click the 'Save' icon on the toolbar on top of the sampler (looks like a floppy disk). You'll be guided to a series of folders for the presets. Let's say you've made a 'Crazy Whoosh' sound that's like a pad. Open Digital Space Pads for example, and then type in 'Crazy Whoosh' and Save. Now everytime you want that sample and/or sound, insert Sampler to a project, go to the presets menu -> Digital Space Pads -> Crazy Whoosh, and ta-da. Just as you last had it sounding. Hope that helps a bit.
