Completely disable generators without deleting them...

Postby TaleWhip » Thu May 13, 2010 8:19 pm

It would be nice to be able to completely disable generators (VSTs) without deleting them...
Some generators use alot of CPU even when idle.

Creating large projects with many instruments and effects would be easier when one doesn't have to prerender parts and adding them as audiotracks just because the CPU can't handle all generators at once, even if they aren't playing.

Bring up the instrument and mute it on its own toolbar (not on the mixer)

Or on the Playlist. Doing that stops it from receiving MIDI, which should put it into sleep mode. If you find that some instruments are still using CPU when idle, it is possibly because of on-board effects, which are often running all the time.

doesn't work. Only the new X-Poly was designed in a way, that it has 0 CPU load when idle.

Sure, it doesn't take it all offline, it keeps a couple of percents in use, but within a big project with lots of instruments it can sure relieve the CPU from being clogged.

Yeah this feature would come in handy when the combine project feature become available. It would also kick ass for useing orion live. When you have a bunch of shit combined into one project your not going to want the unused synths creating any sort of glitch or lag.

not true...XPoly is zero cpu when idle, ie when its not played (so you dont have to mute it) ...but all others are zero cpu when muted on the generator GUI.

And if you use "proper" hardware (e,g, quad core) in addition with Orion's multi core engine (you find this setting under "Audio output options") then the CPU load is spread on all cores which leads in better performance ;)
