Ability to trigger patterns via MIDIIf you can set up your keyboard to send program change messages I don't see why not. I think it more likely that you'll need some software in between your midi keyboard and Orion to translate Note on messages to program change messages. Actually what might be cool here is to use the note on to send a specific program change message and the corresponding note off to switch to a default style (unless of course you want to 'latch' pattern play, i.e. ignore note offs. I'll test this later with my Akai LPD8.
Ability to trigger patterns via MIDImarkholtuk, almost every time you write in this forum I have to c&p in a parallel manual for orion I'm making for myself. Very useful.
Ability to trigger patterns via MIDIAgreed Mark your a bloody champion. Look forward to seeing if it works for you.
I'm downloading Bomes midi translator, I think that might be the layer that will make this work. Matt
Ability to trigger patterns via MIDII think Bomes will be exactly what you want.
JR, I think I'm blushing
Ability to trigger patterns via MIDIOK, just checked this with my Roland PC-300 midi keyboard and you can send PC# change and it will change prs as expected with all generators (i.e. starting from first prs/sty in your folder structure), however whilst it will change sty it only loads up generator settings, not the pattern, which is weird!
Even more weird is when I do this with my Novation Xio it will change styles and load up the pattern etc, but it doesn't start from the first prs/sty in the folder structure and doesn't work with all generators. Go figure. If Rich doesn't see this here today I'll post it as a potential bug at the beta forum. Note this might only be a beta bug, because I don't remember this behaviour with the retail version. Would be great if someone else could check.
Ability to trigger patterns via MIDIBTW, just checked in MIDI Ox and there appears to be one difference in the PC# messages generated by each keyboard DATA2 for Bank LSB.
PC300: TIMESTAMP IN PORT STATUS DATA1 DATA2 CHAN NOTE EVENT 00000ED5 9 3 B0 00 00 1 --- CC: Bank MSB 00000ED6 9 3 B0 20 00 1 --- CC: Bank LSB 00000ED6 9 3 C0 00 -- 1 --- PC: Acc. Grand Piano Xio: TIMESTAMP IN PORT STATUS DATA1 DATA2 CHAN NOTE EVENT 00005A4D 9 3 B0 00 00 1 --- CC: Bank MSB 00005A4D 9 3 B0 20 01 1 --- CC: Bank LSB 00005A4D 9 3 C0 00 -- 1 --- PC: Acc. Grand Piano Hope that helps Rich. Edit: Doh, DATA2 for Bank LSB is the bank slelect message. Last edited by Mark on Tue May 18, 2010 11:43 am, edited 1 time in total.
Ability to trigger patterns via MIDIno, they are right !
i never imagined this solution using style to switch pattern : very good idea ! Yamaha CS-30, Roland SH-1, Roland MKS70, Focusrite Scarlett 18i6, Yamaha FS1R, Oberheim Matrix 1000, Novation Remote 37SL, Korg Legacy, Alesis M1Active 520, Novation Launchpad Pro, Push2, Intel i7-7700HQ
Ability to trigger patterns via MIDISo mark, basically what I could do is assign the specific program change number to a key:
Styles Folders ---- Style A ---- Style B ---- Style C I just need to send the program change number for style A to a key. Is there a way to find the program change number or it is a simple 00 01 02 03 kind of deal? Is it also in hex? Matt
Ability to trigger patterns via MIDII haven't looked in to Bomes too much, but that seems like it should work that way. For your purposes PC#'s are 00-127 (sometimes 1-128), though they are sent as hex over midi. Don't forget you can have bank select messages too, though not sure if Orion supports these haven't tried. Banks allow you to have a whole series of 'banks' of 128 presets. So to simplify sending bank select message 1 and pC# 2 allows you to get to your 2nd preset in bank 1 whereas sending bank select 10 and PC#120 allows you to get at the 120th preset in your 10th bank. As I say though not sure if Orion is au fait with bank select messages. Can't check right now cos I finally got in to work and don't have any gear here with me to check (unusually).
Ability to trigger patterns via MIDII've been doing some tests and it's not working great for me.
I can't get it to load the pattern notes when playing and loading a style. It is as it loaded only the preset but not the pattern. Also when you change the preset there are drop outs in the audio stream. So it's not very useful for live or arranging purposes.
Ability to trigger patterns via MIDII had the former, but only with the PC-300 keyboard - not the Xio. I didn't have any audio drop outs either. That part worked seamlessly.
Ability to trigger patterns via MIDIAre you using Bomes Javier? For some reason I cant get it communicating with orion properly.
Ability to trigger patterns via MIDINop. My BCR sends PC messages. I tried with wavefusion and nothing else playing. I'll try again tonight.
Ability to trigger patterns via MIDIJR. Do you have Midi Ox installed? If so, can you copy and paste the PC change messages here so that I can compare with mine, please?
Ability to trigger patterns via MIDIHere's something to try. If your controllers are sending out Bank MSB and LSB messages before the program change (this is normal), try to filter them out so that it's just the PC#. I've just played with Mathematica (and some of the midi stuff I wrote) and if I output a pure PC# it works perfectly. If I try to stick bank select messages in front it doesn't work. A shame, because it would be nice to select preset folders using bank select messages.
